ANDROGYNE BOOKS is an independent small press publishing poetry, short stories and translations. The press endeavors to provoke the reader, through its publications, with words and images that challenge and extend our understanding of each other. Androgyne Books grew out of a collaboration of friends that wanted to get their poems and stories published. In 1971 a poetry magazine Androgyne, was published. Several issues and books latter, the press has continued its publication of poetry and fiction. It is our intent to produce quality books by writers who deserve greater attention. Our primary focus is writers local to San Francisco and the Bay Area, but it extends to translations of modern Dutch poets. Androgyne Books collaborates with other presses and organizations on such events as book fairs, collective distribution projects and poetry readings.
